Our 2015 July Vac School commenced on Monday, with a really good turn out of students for the various activities offered:  Grade 10 went straight into their 2015 SAICE Bridge Building Workshop with Mr Oliver Rowe, a lecturer from DUT – Indumiso Campus (Civil Engineering Dept) and will be designing and building their own structure on Wednesday with post-student Mr Sandile Ngubane.  They will also benefit from an in-depth Maths Workshop delivered by Mr Silva Pillay from Hilton College, and a creative Tie & Dye T-Shirt Design Workshop from Mrs Cornel de Koker.

The Grade 12’s left early on Monday morning for the Vula Programme @ Hilton College Maths and Science Winter School; this week is financed by N3 Toll Concession (Pty) Ltd, the company which manages the N3 Highway from Grassmere (Jhb) to Hilton.  Long days and late nights of Maths/Science revision always yields excellent results in these subjects in the end!  On Friday, the Grade 12s will attend a Workplace Prepping Workshop presented by Mrs Anna Martyn from Careers by Design, which should sharpen their skills for their 2015 Work Experience Week which follows on 13th July.  This year, we are very privileged to have our matric students hosted by the following companies and institutions:

Mondi (Forestry), SOMTA Tools (Mech Eng), RHDHV (Civils), KZN Department of Transport (Civils), Eskom Eastern Division (Electr Eng), Greys Hospital (Radiography, Pharmacy & Medicine), Edendale Hospital (Medicine, Dentistry, Optometry & Pharmacy) and Cedara College (Animal Husbandry, Mushroom project, Agronomy, Laboratory/Soil Science & Farm Management). We are immensely grateful to them all for their generosity.

The Grade 11s are immersed in a week of Maths (Silva Pillay), Practical Science (Messrs Ndlovu and Ngcobo) Lessons, English – both Home Language and First Additional Language literature and their introductory workshop to 2016 Career Guidance.

Attendance is wonderfully good and spirits are high!
