Who we are & What we do

PROTEC Pietermaritzburg Academy (founded in 1989) is a registered non-profit company (NPC), non-profit organisation (NPO) and public benefit organisation (PBO).

PROTEC PMB as it is affectionately known, provides quality enrichment education for disadvantaged children in Grades 8 – 12, in Mathematics, Physical Science, English and World of Work (Life skills and career guidance).  All students come from the greater Pietermaritzburg and KZN Midlands region.

Students are selected according to their natural abilities in Mathematics. A carefully constructed curriculum is taught via Saturday and Vacation School timetables. Well qualified and highly experienced and committed teachers are the core of these programmes. Additional enrichments, such as SAICE Bridge Building, SAIMechE Technology Olympiad, Grade 10 personal development camp, Grade 12 Career Day and Career Guidance Assessments (etc) are included annually.

Approximately 3000 students have passed through Protec PMB since 1989. Many post students are now highly successful graduates of a variety of South African Universities, and are economically active in technological fields.

  1. Hi there my child is doing grade 9 this year and he didn’t do well last year and I will like to enquire about the classes in order to assist him to improve his atchivement from now onwards

    1. Hi Mbongiseni, sadly our Grade 9 class is full for 2015. PROTEC Pmb offers Enrichment education rather than extra lessons. This means that we deal with the difficult concepts to help students who are achieving c or B symbols, to get A ‘s. I suggest that you speak to the Headmaster and teacher at your child’s school, and ask for extra lessons to be provided, after school. Thanks.
