PROTEC Pietermaritzburg Academy (founded in 1989) is a registered non-profit company (NPC), non-profit organisation (NPO) and public benefit organisation (PBO).
PROTEC PMB as it is affectionately known, provides quality enrichment education for disadvantaged children in Grades 8 – 12, in Mathematics, Physical Science, English and World of Work (Life skills and career guidance). Â All students come from the greater Pietermaritzburg and KZN Midlands region.
Students are selected according to their natural abilities inÂ Mathematics. A carefully constructed curriculum is taught via Saturday and Vacation School timetables. Well qualified and highly experienced and committed teachers areÂ the core of these programmes. Additional enrichments, such as SAICE Bridge Building, SAIMechE Technology Olympiad, Grade 10 personal development camp, Grade 12 Career Day and Career Guidance Assessments (etc) are included annually.
Approximately 3000 students have passed through Protec PMB since 1989. Many post students are now highly successful graduates of a variety of South African Universities, and are economically active in technological fields.
